Only a few days left until E3...and it's looking like E3 is coming back in a HUGE way this year. Lots of big announcements, tons of games being shown off, and the show floor itself is going to be packed with 50,000 gamers checking out all the latest stuff.
Now is the time to make your predictions and let us know what you're most excited about! What games are you itchin' for more info on? What do you think will be announced? Who is going to "Win" E3?
I'm looking for the park where the Duke Nukem Forever developers come out. If they see their shadow and are scared, then they run back into corners to act like they had been doing something. If they dont see their shadows, then they let us know what they did for so long.
I'm mostly excited about Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2, but some of the games like Uncharted 2 and the mention of a new Zelda title have caught my interest.
1) Zune HD fully detailed. I am hoping for Xbox integration as rumors have been saying. I would love to be able to buy Arcade titles on my Zune HD and play them on the Zune, then also play them on my Xbox 360. Plus I love the look of the thing. Can't wait to see more.
2) I want more Modern Warfare 2 trailers.
3) Looking for some info on the next version of Lips, Rock Band: Beatles, Assassins Creed 2, and BioShock 2.
4) I want to see more Primetime info and the final release of 1 vs. 100.
5) GAMES. Give me lots of games to look forward to.
Most of the big hits of this E3 are already known, and almost all sequels: Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Mass Effect, God of War, and The Sims. Smaller titles like The Saboteur and BrĂ¼tal Legend will impress with hands-on previews, but remain only moderate interests for most people due to so much crowding of blockbuster titles.
Though I see no reason to get excited about Alan Wake yet considering how little has been shown, it was made such a big deal years ago and has been talked up enough since that a little gameplay footage at E3 would generate a lot of hype. A sequel to Left 4 Dead would also generate a lot of press, even if it's nothing more than the same gameplay in new levels. If Zelda or another famous franchise gets a new installment, there will be much ado regardless of quality.
Borderlands might have the most to gain. It looks impressive, but few gamers know or care about it so far. They'll need some savvy marketing to break to supplement good gameplay. I'm also hoping to see some progress on Backbreaker, and perhaps Bloodbowl on the 360.
If The Agency and Huxley are ready to show off, those could dominate MMO news.
Overall, Microsoft will do well mostly because of their flurry of great games this year, but they'll likely overhype 1-vs-100 and similar content. They need more than one new use for avatars. If they're revealing a motion-capture system, they'll need something better than In The Movies to win over critics. An announcement of another service in the vein of Netflix would be huge.
Sony's got more to show this year than last year, but they'll still come in last. I don't think Heavy Rain will draw as many gamers as they think it will. They'll talk about the success of Little Big Planet and talk about their non-game services.
Nintendo will talk up the Wii Fit's success, but their strong point this year is hardcore games. The Grinder, Dead Space: Extraction and Dead Rising are wins for them... but The Grinder will have to live up to its promises regarding online co-op. Wii Motion Plus has to wow consumers with great game applications, because another "must have" peripheral will irritate frugal gamers. And there will of course be handheld game announcements.
I think Sony is really going to let a lot of cats out of a lot of bags this year. With so many announcements RE: PSP, (LittleBIGPlanet, Assassins creed, Rock Band, and more) there has GOT to be something else they're not telling us just yet about the system.
Also re: Sony.. I disagree with what a lot of people are speculating.. I think Sony WILL be announcing both a PRICE DROP, AND a SLIM version of the PS3..I personally think they're getting really aggressive about increasing their install base for all of their platforms. I personally think they'll have a lot to tell us at this years' E3.
Sony seriously needs to do something. I keep WANTING to like the PS3 but after... 3 years? There's still few games that I'm really dying to play that are exclusive to it (Metal Gear Solid 4 being the only amazing one that pops to mind). The FF game hasn't materialized yet, and for me LBP was a nice tech demo. Not trying to start a flamewar, but the DLC on the Xbox 360 has done a really nice job and Sony kinda offered little with @home as I saw it during beta and the delay kinda killed it for me.
The PSP is neat (now, when it first launched I thought it was an unreliable piece of ****), but the PS3 is still a wonderful piece of hardware with few compelling games for me to justify that price point.
I would love to see a price drop on the hardware. It was justified with Bluray players were $700, but now it simply doesn't add up.
That being said, I'm really excited to be moving into a new apartment that has all of the major game systems with 120" screen HD projector :)
I am most excited about the things we don't know yet. In other words, I'm not terribly excited by anything already announced, so I hope we'll get some really cool, new things to look forward too.
Well, that's not completely true. I don't think BG&E2 will be featured, maybe not even mentioned, but I am looking forward to that. Also there are some big titles, sequels, of which I haven't even played the originals yet, which I'll want to do first.
It will be the first public showing of Mass Effect 2. I've been working on it since Bring Down the Sky wrapped, and it'll be nice to show my family what all the 60-hour weeks have been for.
I would like to see more of the game Team ICO is working on. I'd also like Kojima Productions to just freaking announce an actual game, instead of announcing yet another announcement. It's getting very old.
Most excited about KAOS' Homefront, since me and my clan WCR play Frontlines - Fuel of War all the time since it came out and Homefront is going to be the follow up.
Most excited yet doubtful Alan Wake will ever make it into the physical world, the premis is one I really like as a senior gamer (gets cane) I like the look of Brutal Legend as well.
I'm just looking forward to E3 in general. Of course, I'm anticipating news on CoD; MW2, but I'm sure there'll be some other surprise topics - particularly from Nintendo who always surprise.
@Stormwaltz good luck with the showing, really looking forward to the game and continuation of the story. Be keeping an eye out for news and coverage. @Clackling I am also excited for 1vs100, the idea of primetime gaming and doing a live event with hundreds or thousands of people for prizes is a lot of fun. I think they are onto something here, and can really see live events like this really growing.
Whatever Kojima announces :-D. More Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2. Really pulling for Nintendo to announce some better games for their hardcore crowd along with a Sony price drop or announcement of PSP2
To append to my earlier statement, now that I've got the time to do it:
Bioshock 2 news will be the big thing I'll be looking for. Especially since everything that we've seen on the game up until now has just been tech demo instead of actual news. At least that's my understanding.
Alan Wake news is another thing that I'll be seeking out like a racoon in a trash can. I can't get enough of the trailer for this game, and honestly would like to see some sort of release timeline shown.
Going hand-in-hand with Alan Wake, more info about Heavy Rain would be very welcome. This game looks amazing from what we've been shown thus far and may be the tipping point in the scales that makes me go out and get a PS3.
A Kojima announcement that's not just another announcement of an announcement would also be welcome. I don't delve *that* much into the Metal Gear series but have high respect for it and its creators, so that news should be big.
I'm also looking for the second Professor Layton to come stateside, as has been rumored, and for more information about this Level 5 game that's getting all kinds of buzz. Always welcome for more reasons to love my DS, as if Chrono Trigger weren't enough.
There's also all the other big hits that will be coming out this year. Looking for videos of gameplay, or even cutscenes, will also be a must for me.
And of course the chance to win a gamerDNA shirt is awesome. I'll definitely be participating in these chats. :)
I'm definitely excited to see what Sony rolls out for E3. PSP Go! Should be a hit, and I hope the slim PS3 rumors are true. Otherwise I really want to know what Kojima is working on. My theory is a next-gen anthology that has remakes of 1, 2, and 3 for next gen visuals and along with that would be 4. I would easily drop a Benji and a Jefferson for that. I know it won't happen, but I can dream.
Project Natal will be like Onlive, it'll possibly take years to implement for the general audience, and the hardware will have lots of issues because its not easy having such sophisticated technology like detecting your personal avatars through unique body parts etc. Besides, it could even get to be like what Six Axis controller promised before it got beaten by Wii. So lets not get confident
Almost cried for Natal, OnLive (signed up on the website a couple of months ago), Microsoft and all of their moves and Assasin's Creed 2. Rock Band Beatles seems too different from the previous two RBs...but if music is the most important part of that kind of game (and I think it really is), it will be as awesome as Rock Band 1 and 2. After that,well...Halo 3 ODST videos at last. And...Halo Reach???
Guess that's the MMO player in me. It always comes back to being social! ^-^
